Marie Brizard Almond Orgeat Syrup
Marie Brizard Almond Orgeat Syrup comes from one of the oldest spirits houses in France. Marie Brizard, born in Bordeaux in 1714, founded the company there in 1755 with her partner Jean-Baptiste Roger, creating an anisette liqueur that King Louis XV later ordered for the banquets at Versailles. The house applies the same approach it uses for its liqueurs to its syrup collection, which was refreshed in 2022 so that every flavor is made with 100% natural flavorings. This almond syrup is made with pure cane sugar and carefully selected natural almond extracts, with no preservatives and no coloring, and it contains no alcohol. It pours cloudy white, with the aroma of bitter almond; on the palate it is delicate, lightly sweet, and aromatic, with the characteristic taste of bitter almond, the marzipan note that orgeat needs. Behind the bar, that is exactly what the Mai Tai calls for, and it is also the sweetener in the Army & Navy, the Japanese Cocktail, the Scorpion, and countless tiki drinks. It also works outside of cocktails, stirred into hot or iced coffee, tea, or milk, or used to flavor lemonade and desserts.
