Tequila Mala Vida Reposado
Tequila Mala Vida Reposado is from the line Alex González, drummer for Maná, launched in 2016 after thirty years of touring convinced him that good tequila was too hard to find outside Mexico; the skull on the stopper is his nod to Día de Muertos. The line is kosher and non-GMO certified and produced at NOM 1588 in the southern Los Altos highlands from 100% blue Weber agave, cooked in a low-pressure autoclave, crushed on a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel with the fibers removed and classical music playing, then distilled twice in a stainless steel pot still and proofed with natural spring water. The reposado rests in both French oak and American white oak barrels and is bottled at 40% ABV. The brand describes a balance of cooked agave and fruit, with vanilla and caramel bringing out the oak, an intense aroma, a full, well-rounded body and a lingering finish; Tequila Matchmaker reviewers, who mostly score it in the 80s, add butterscotch, cinnamon, cherry, clove and baking spice, and call it smooth, well balanced and fairly priced. Easy to sip, and a natural in a reposado old fashioned.
